The decision on whether to increase the base interest rate of the Federal Reserve System (the FRS) or not is going to be made around at 3 in the morning on the 18th Friday in Korean Time. The FRS will hold FOMC for 2 days from the 16th in American Eastern Time to make a decision on whether to increase the rate of the Federal short term loan.

The FRS kept the Federal Fund at the lowest for about 7 years since they lowered it to 0~ 0.25% right after the Global economic crisis in December 2008.

According to the foreign media like the Reuter, the Wall Street Journal and so on, the experts in the U.S financial market have differing opinions on whether the FRS is going to proceed with the increase of the base interest rate. Personnel with rights to vote at FOMC have different opinions upon the increase in September as well.

미국 연방준비제도(연준)의 기준금리 인상 여부가 한국시간으로 18일(금요일) 새벽 3시쯤 판명된다. 연준은 미국 동부시간으로 16일부터 이틀간 연방공개시장위원회(FOMC)를 열어 기준금리인 연방기금 단기대출 금리를 인상할 지 여부를 결정한다.

연준은 글로벌 금융위기 직후인 2008년 12월 연방기금 금리를 사상 최저수준인 연 0~0.25%로 낮춘 이후 지금까지 7년가까이 이를 유지하고 있다.

13일 로이터, 월스트리트저널 등 외신에 따르면 미국 금융시장 전문가들은 연준이 이번에 기준금리 인상을 단행할 지를 두고 거의 반반으로 나뉘어 논쟁을 벌이고 있다. FOMC에서 투표권이 있는 인사들도 9월에 금리를 인상해야 하느냐를 놓고 엇갈린 견해를 내놓고 있다.
