The automobile market began to totter in the aftermath of Volkswagen's "deliberate circumvention of diesel emission".

After the company admitted that 11 million of its cars might have been affected by cheating emmisions with computer software devices that could sense test scenarios when they were being tested, specialists started questioning about diesel cars that were released with a title of "environment friendly and high mileage" .

Some say that this scandal might result a paradigm shift to electric vihicles. This scandal started after the Environmental Protection Agency found out the fact that the Volkswagen's cars that were popular in North America had 40 times more NOx emissions than when it was tested.

With a help of the scandal, electric vehicle companies have an opportunity to enhance their presence.

Apple, the IT company, is focusing on the development of electric cars with a plan to release them in 2019.

600 of Apple's researchers and employees are developing electric cars with a team name 'Titan'.

디젤차의 종언?

폭스바겐그룹의 '배출가스 속임수' 사태로 글로벌 금융시장까지 여파가 미치면서 자동차 시장이 흔들리고 있다. 폭스바겐 측이 자사의 디젤 승용차 1100만대가 배출가스 차단장치 소프트웨어(SW)로 테스트를 통과했을 가능성이 있다고 인정하면서 전문가들은 '고연비·친환경' 타이틀을 단 디젤차량에 대해 물음표를 던지고 있다. 일각에서는 이번 대규모 '눈속임' 사태를 계기로 전기자동차로 패러다임이 빠르게 전환하는 계기가 될 것으로 보고 있다.

이번 사건의 발단은 미국 환경보호청(EPA)이 북미에서 인기를 몰아가던 폭스바겐 차량에서 질소산화물(NOx) 배출량이 차량 검사 때와 실제 주행시 차이가 최대 40배까지 차이가 난다고 발표하면서다. 폭스바겐의 위기로 전기차 업체는 존재감을 부각시킬 수 있는 기회를 맞았다.
