The Shin brother's, Shin Dongju(62) and Shin Dongbin(61), dispute over management right is kicked into high gear and the country's fifth-largest conglomerate began to falter again.

The industry is concerned that the 2nd Lotte feud would create a negative effect on Korean economy since the company is confronted with some difficult problems such as corporate governance improvement, getting hotel Lotte listed and licensing the duty free shop etc.

Lotte was planning to finish the cross-shareholding by December this year as well as to get hotel Lotte licensed by the beginning of next year. According to Lotte, it costs the company seven trillion to reduce the cross-shareholding by 80% which is 6 times more than Lotte Shopping's profits last year. Besides, it is analyzed that the listing schedule might be delayed due to the lawsuit between Shin brother.

There is a great deal of uncertainty lying ahead for the change of the dominate stockholder due to ownership change and it is not clear if the company would be able to get hotel Lotte licensed when the court dispute is kicked into high gear.

롯데, 경영권 분쟁 재점화…한국 경제에 치명적

신동주(62), 신동빈(61) 두 형제의 경영권 분쟁이 재점화되며 안정을 찾아가던 재계 5위 롯데그룹이 다시 흔들리고 있다.

재계는 지배구조 개선, 호텔롯데 상장, 면세점 인허가 등 난제가 쌓여있는 가운데 다시 터진 제 2롯데 사태가 한국경제에도 악재로 작용할 것으로 우려하고 있다.

롯데는 올해 12월까지 순환출자 해소를 마무리할 예정이었으며 내년 초까지는 호텔롯데를 상장할 계획이었다.

롯데그룹에 따르면 지배구조 개선을 위해 순환출자를 80% 해소하는 데에만 7조원의 비용이 든다. 이는 한국 롯데계열사 중 최대 규모인 롯데쇼핑의 지난해 영업이익 6배에 달하는 액수다.

하지만 이번 소송전으로 호텔롯데 상장 일정도 차질이 불가피한 것으로 분석되고 있다. 향후 경영권 변동으로 실질적 지배주주가 바뀔 수도 있는 불확실성이 노출된데다 지배권에 대한 법적 분쟁이 본격화되는 상황에서 상장 절차를 제대로 진행할 수 있을 지 미지수다. 재계 관계자는 "사태의 장기화로 남는 것은 실추된 이미지와 막대한 손해뿐이며 국내 경제성장에도 부정적이다"며 "롯데 오너일가가 책임과 양심을 가지고 결단을 내려야 할 때"라고 지적했다. /스피킹전문 EDB 영어회화학원 대표강사 닥터 벤
