Hong Wan-Sun, the director of National Pension Fund Management, does not often show what he is really up to. He hardly blames others. We could not get hold of him even though we had tried several times to have a telephone interview with him on the 21th. In fact, above comment was virtually created by a journalist who has been watching Hong at official and unofficial occasions.

Should we leave the National Pension Fund Management in the hands of public corporation or leave it as it is now?It does not seem like there is an answer to this. What is clear is that we need to secure the independence and speciality of the fund that will be raised up to a quadrillion. This is the predominant view of the market.

It coincides with director Hong's opinion.

Hong often said "If the National Pension Fund Management is solely left to public corporation without being seperated, it will be difficult to employ great talents since the chairman of the board can interfere in Human Resource Management or budgetting and consquently, overseas investment will be reduced which will make it difficult to administer the fund in an efficient way."

국민의 노후는 없다

홍완선 국민연금공단 기금운용본부장은 좀처럼 속내를 비치지 않는다. 남의 탓을 하는 경우도 없다. 21일 수차례 전화인터뷰를 시도 했지만 연결되지 않았다. 평소 공공 및 사석에서 지켜본 기자가 그의 속내를 가상한 코멘트다.

기금운용본부를 공사화할 것이냐, 현 상태로 남느냐에 정답은 없다. 분명한 것은 2600조원까지 커질 기금의 독립성과 전문성을 확보해야 한다는 게 시장의 지배적인 시각이다. 홍 본부장의 생각도 일치한다.
